LINE UP

‍

Amadou / Ribot / Smith + Run Into The Apocalypse + Frank Rosaly’s Ruidoscuro + Jens Bouttery solo + Nufaro + numerous improv sessions

‍

‍

Amadou / Ribot / Smith

‍

Marc Ribot says… “Last year, Ches Smith called me up and said: ‘You should come check out a gig I’m doing tonight with bassist Farida Amadou.’ It was the most intense, exciting music I’d heard in decades. Afterwards, I said to Farida and Ches: ‘let’s jam!’”

‍

Spontaneously born from shared curiosity and jam sessions, this trio brings together three distinct figures from the international improvisation scene for their first performance in Amsterdam. This new trio explores the outer limits of where their diverse improvisational backgrounds can take them.

‍

Electric bassist Farida Amadou is known for her raw, intuitive approach to improvisation and has become a major force within experimental music. She has collaborated with artists such as Thurston Moore, Peter Brötzmann, and Moor Mother. Iconic guitar innovator Marc Ribot and “one of the slyest drummers in the experimental scene” Ches Smith have long collaborated in their post-rock agit-punk band, Ceramic Dog.

Run Into The Apocalypse

‍

Run Into The Apocalypse moves through the shifting space between acoustic and electronic sound. Live electronics, sampling, and digital textures weave together with improvisation to create a constantly changing soundscape. By embracing instability and change, the trio turns noise and interference into compositional material. Rita Brancato’s hybrid drum kit explores the possibilities of harmonic content, sustained sounds, words, chords, and melodies, and even the illusion of hundreds of drums playing at once. Together with Andrea Leone (tenor saxophone) and Massimiliano Dosoli (clarinet and effects), the trio explores the possibilities of electronics applied to acoustic instruments. In doing so, the boundaries between instruments, machines, and performers blur in a search for new timbres and new ways of listening.

‍

‍

Frank Rosaly’s Ruidoscuro

‍

The quartet Ruidoscuro places strict sequential patterns against improvisation to create a ritualistic musical movement. The music tells a dark, oppressive story within a richly layered context of swirling polyrhythms, bitonal melodic structures, and shifting harmonic patterns in new music that refuses to be centralized. Layered systems of repetition, trance-based cycles, and melodic motifs rotate around and connect with each other, creating space for the listener to lose themselves in the raw energy of this powerful ensemble. Led by drummer Frank Rosaly, the group consists of guitarist Andy Moor of The Ex, pianist Marta Warelis, and multi-instrumentalist Ibelisse Guardia Ferraguti on keyboards and electronics. For this occasion, the group is joined by Lida Brouskari on synthesizers.

‍

‍

Jens Bouttery solo

‍

Drummer, composer, and producer Jens Bouttery works internationally across a wide range of disciplines, from music to film, theater, and dance. The drum kit forms his foundation, but over the years he has grown into a multi-instrumentalist, driven by curiosity about other inputs, raw craftsmanship, and self-built instruments. His artistic universe revolves around exploring freedom within compositional performance structures. Live drums, orchestral works, experimental sound design, pop songs, underground dance, and even metal serve as inspiration for his work. Any musical style can be an influence, as long as it has a natural connection to the core of the work and creates a unique and organic world for the project.

‍

‍

Nufaro

‍

By experimenting with sound design and unconventional arrangements, Nufaro explores the boundaries of pop music, aiming to challenge songwriting conventions and clichés. Rather than simply creating collections of songs, they adopt a narrative perspective, crafting long-form stories that shape their work, with strong influences from the psychedelic rock approach of the 70s.
