Since the release of their debut album Trouble (2022) and its acclaimed follow-up Lightning Trails (2023), Laundromat Chicks have quickly become one of the most exciting acts to emerge from Vienna’s thriving indie scene. Blending infectious power pop, sharp-edged jangle pop and bittersweet guitar anthems, the band occupies a rare sweet spot where humor, swagger and vulnerability effortlessly collide. Drawing inspiration from bands like Buzzcocks, Joy Division, Belle & Sebastian and Big Star, Laundromat Chicks craft songs that feel both instantly familiar and refreshingly unpredictable. Centered around songwriter Tobias Hammermüller, alongside Theresa Strohmer, Felix Schnabl and Lena Pöttinger, the quartet has built a reputation for their prolific creativity, magnetic live energy and irresistible melodies.

‍

With their third album Sometimes Possessed, released via Siluh Records, the band expands their sound into more cinematic, dreamy and emotionally layered territory. While earlier releases thrived on concise guitar-driven hooks and restless momentum, the new record embraces ambiguity, atmosphere and experimentation. Inspired by heartbreak, road movies and the beauty of getting lost, Hammermüller channels personal experiences into songs that drift between fiction and reality. Tracks like “Cameron,” “Sunburn” and “Secrets” showcase a band unafraid to let catchy songwriting dissolve into moments of chaos, melancholy and unexpected beauty. The result is an album that feels both intimate and adventurous — a soundtrack for wandering off course and discovering something meaningful along the way.

TOPSY TURVY

‍

Since emerging from Vienna’s thriving DIY scene, TOPSY TURVY have built a reputation for their explosive blend of garage punk, surf rock, psychedelia and lo-fi rock ’n’ roll. Comprised of Resi, Lena and Vic, the trio thrive on playful chaos, constantly swapping instruments and vocal duties while channeling a raw, instinctive energy both on record and on stage. Often described as “The Slits doing surf rock,” TOPSY TURVY combine ragged punk attitude with vintage girl-garage influences and shimmering psychedelic textures. Drawing inspiration from the Girls In The Garage compilations to the snarling urgency of Amyl and The Sniffers and Automatic, the band create music that feels rebellious, witty and irresistibly fun all at once.

‍

Their latest album Fighting The Ginormous Macho Nacho, released via Siluh Records, captures the band at their most fearless and fully realised. Written in the aftermath of relentless touring across Europe and the UK, the record transforms frustration, absurdity and lived experiences into a vibrant half-hour rush of sharp hooks, chaotic energy and tongue-in-cheek storytelling. Beneath the playful aesthetic and space-age glamour lies a pointed commentary on misogyny within the music industry, embodied in the album’s symbolic “Macho Nacho” character. Tracks like “Five Guitars” and “The Wind” showcase the band’s ability to shift effortlessly between explosive garage rock and dreamy psychedelic detours, resulting in a sound that is urgent, unpredictable and unmistakably their own.
