Mother Johnson is an international five-piece band that effortlessly blends rowdy, high-energy instrumentals with dreamy, introspective lyrics. Over the past few years, they have firmly rooted themselves in Amsterdam’s underground and squat scene, becoming known for their intense live shows and elusive atmosphere. Their sound feels like a trip: an intoxicating mix of fuzz-driven space rock and floating soundscapes that carry you into another dimension.
With a raw wall of sound rooted in shoegaze influences, fierce rhythms, and mysterious lyrics that explore the unknown, Mother Johnson is anything but subtle—yet impossible to ignore because of it. On May 23rd, they will present their debut EP on the Cinetol stage: a layered, cosmic release filled with soft, dreamlike atmospheres. her loving aftertaste is een collectief van vier onafhankelijke muzikanten en vrienden, diep verweven in de nachtelijke cultuur van Amsterdam, dat unieke klanken creëert met een krachtige trio-opstelling van drums, bas en gitaar. Hun geluid wordt gekenmerkt door dromerige zang en introspectieve teksten die het leven bevragen, gedragen door langgerekte, nostalgische en melancholische soundscapes met zwaar vervormde dreampop- en shoegaze-invloeden. Tegelijkertijd verweven ze subtiele, heldere momenten in hun composities, waardoor de muziek ademruimte krijgt en zich ontvouwt in meer gestructureerde lagen. In hun werk zoeken ze voortdurend naar een spanningsveld tussen hartverscheurende noise en een vredige, maar onderhuids onrustige harmonie.
