slowblink (extended ensemble)

‍

Slowblink is an experimental quartet of electroacoustic songs, often joined by different satellite members for each performance. At the core of their music, slowblink derives simple beauty out of complex musical systems, bringing together contemporary classical influences, electronic music and post-rock songwriting into a hard-to-define sound that allows the imagination to take the forefront. The amalgam of analogue electronics, digitally-manipulated acoustic instruments, the hiss of old broadcasting equipment, the drifting of cassette recorders and the controlled hum of feedback creates a ridged and textured bedrock. Wailing vocals and warm string and guitar melodies guide the listener through the uncertainty of the noise.

‍

For this performance, slowblink will extend the ensemble to perform alternate versions of their music.

Seamus Cater

‍

Seamus Cater is a English musician and composer based in Amsterdam. Most often his output is a combination of song writing and acoustic instrumental music. Playing keyboards and ‘duet concertina’, sometimes tuned in Just Intonation, he searches for resonant connections between subject and musical material. His songs are noted for conceptual narratives, often reinforced by musical parallels.

‍

Releases include Strange the Grass Grows (2026), a duo with Fredrik Rasten playing traditional English and Scottish songs in special tunings: A History of Musical Pitch (2023), on Another Timbre (UK): The Three Things You Can Hear, on Annihaya Records / Nearly Not There Records: Secrets, a long term collaboration with the Berlin clarinetist Kai Fagaschinski:  The Anecdotes, an LP of biographical portraits of artists with Viljam Nybacka.

‍

Seamus is a founding member and organiser of the Amsterdam concert series DNK-Amsterdam.
